The believer who does not walk, stand or set in the ways of the ungodly will delight in heavenly things and not the delicacies of the world. I have learned that good counsel given without instruction is a lot like getting into a car knowing where it is you want to go, but not having any directions on how to get to your desired destination. I believe we can get our instructions from God’s word and He will supply us our directions for our lives. I want to lay a wonderful scripture on your heart and I ask that you would keep this near your heart as you continue in the days the Lord gives you here on this earth. Colossians 3:1-2 gives us great instruction, “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” We need to seek the heavenly things and we need to set our affections (or our minds) on the things above. When we seek the Lord Jesus Christ for the totality of our lives our lives will be a reflection of Christ in the decisions that we make and the direction we travel. Good counsel with instruction in how to apply it will equal victory and blessings in the life of a Christian.
For us to grow in our walk with the Lord we must take serious the study of the Word of God. That is not profound by any measure. I have learned that depth can be found in simplicity. I want to challenge you to read Psalm one in the morning and again in the evening over the next three weeks. Meditate on these six verses and allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate the powerful truth found in this Psalm.
