Oswald Chambers wrote, “The thing that awakens the deepest well of gratitude in a human being is that God has forgiven sin.” Darkness hovered over the world. Brokenness was felt because something was introduced. A current we could not change; the riptide was so strong we could not make it to solid ground. Our condition well beyond critical we walked in darkness and the shadow of death left its mark on us. It was cold iron and inescapable chains- It was and is sin. The Bible says, “Wherefore by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned” (Romans 5:12). Adam was the one who introduced sin into the world. That very sin nature has been passed down to everyone who has been born since that fall in the garden.
Think of where we would be without the cross of Christ. Without the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ dear believer there would be no hope-none! I Peter 2:24 says, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” A heavy price was paid for our salvation. God’s hatred of sin is measured by the magnitude of His Son’s suffering. It’s been said, “Our sins were the nails that nailed Him to that tree and our hard hearts were the hammers that drove those nails.” The wrath of God came down upon the Son of God on Calvary’s dark hill. Before the gavel came down our Saviour was lifted up. From such violence came victory. The greatest victory ever known to mankind. EVER!
May we not neglect to show our gratitude for the price that the Lord Jesus Christ paid for our salvation and the forgiveness of sins. Take time to reflect on the price that was paid. I believe that our gratitude will be an ember that will lead to a fervent flame of gratefulness that will revive and thaw out our cold and damp hearts.
