Psalm 119:162
Psalm 119 is a chapter that is chalked full of treasure. It is made up of one hundred-seventy six verses and if one is willing they can take a journey that will lead them into the depths of God’s heart in regard to His Word. The beauty of the structure of this Psalm cannot go without saying. The Psalm is acrostic in structure. It consists of twenty-two stanzas of exactly eight verses with each stanza representing one of the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Each of the eight verses of every one of the twenty-two stanzas begins with the corresponding letter of the Hebrew alphabet. There is an outward beauty that is only a hint of its inward treasure.
The design of this wonderful chapter allows one to follow what I have spoken of many times when it comes to the consuming or feasting on God’s word and that is taking small bites so that we allow the Holy Spirit to teach us, guide us, convict us, speak to us and ultimately shape us to be more Christ like.
I do not want to interfere with any reading schedule or study you might already be currently participating in. I want to simply suggest to you that if you are interested in being challenged and changed by getting into God’s Word, set aside a specific time with a pencil and a notebook and work through each stanza of eight verses. Pray over God’s Word before you begin and you will rejoice and begin to delight in true treasure, the Word of God.
