I Thessalonians 5:17
I had a great response to this blog and felt led to repost it. I pray that it will stir and fire up the born again!
E.M. Bounds wrote, “The life, power and glory of the church is prayer. The life of its members is dependent on prayer and the presence of God is secured and retained by prayer. The very place is made sacred by its ministry. Without it, the church is lifeless and powerless…..Without prayer, a church is like a body without spirit; it is dead, inanimate thing. A church with prayer in it has God in it.”
The prayer meeting has become a thing of the past. Christians carve out time in their busy schedules for ballgames, television and dinner dates, yet the Wednesday night prayer meeting seems to not be on their radar or found in their day planner. I understand that the Apostle Paul, in our verse, is telling us to be continually in prayer. I also believe that we have a wonderful opportunity when we gather with other believers at church to pray. I am blessed at such meetings as the folks gather at the altar or at their seats and I hear the sounds of a chorus of voices calling out to Almighty God. I want to challenge you to make time to attend your churches prayer meeting. Who should we pray for? I’d like to suggest a few.
I. The Pastor- Your Pastor has a lot on his shoulders and upon his heart. Be sure to lift him and his family up in a powerful way to God. He wants the best for you
II. The Deacons- God has placed His men to do a work in the local Church. I am afraid they are left out of our prayers. Lift them up and call them by name.
III. The people in the Pews- People are hurting and at times going through the difficulties of living in this fallen world. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirits prompting for the people in the pews.
IV. The Missionaries you support- Many of us can’t fully comprehend what missionaries and their families go through; not only those who God has called to a faraway land, but those also who minister on American soil.
This list is aimed towards the local church. There is such power when we gather in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and then pray in His powerful and matchless name. The Lord Jesus did not mince words with the money changers when He cleansed the Temple of them, “It is written, My HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED THE HOUSE OF PRAYER” (Matthew 21:12). Make it a priority to attend the prayer meeting.
