Our decisions will define what it is we delight in, and in turn those decisions will go a long way in defining the life we live. It is and always has been about the choices that we make. God's word often times gives us examples and illustrations of two different roads or two different paths, and teaches us what we can expect to find on those roads and paths that we choose to take. My friend, the house is only as strong as the foundation that it is built upon, and so it is in the life of a Christian. When we choose to follow and obey the commandments of the Lord, our lives will be built on bedrock and not a sand pile. The Bible teaches us that God's commandments are not grievous (they are not burdensome). The instructions from the word of God are not the clipping of one's wings but the empowering of one's life and soul. When we read Thou shalt not, it is not a wet blanket thrown on our lives to dilute our joy, it is a hedge of protection, it is a shield. My friends, it is love and guidance from the Heavenly Father to His children. The Bible says "Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart." (Psalms 119:2) I heard these words some time ago and they still ring true today; "It is easier to make decisions when you are grounded in principles." The more grounded we are in the principles and commandments of the Lord, the more likely we are to make the right choices, and our lives will be more Christ like as well as Christ centered.
In these days that we are living in we must standfast (a firm, fixed or settled position) and be steadfast (loyal, faithful, committed, devoted, dedicated) when it comes to staying on the old paths that has been given to us by Almighty God from His precious and powerful word. God has set our course when it comes to our everyday lives through the compass of His word. The devil wants to discourage us to get off the path the Lord has for us and merge on to the world's path. The temptations are very real even for the most seasoned saint so we must continually and vigilantly abide in Christ Jesus, while walking in the Spirit, while desiring the sincere milk of the word.
Psalm one spoke to my heart early on in my life as a Christian and continues to bless me today. I pray that you will meditate upon these words and be refreshed and rejuvenated as the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart.
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Psalm 1:1-6
