Luke 8:5a
The Lord Jesus, in this parable, paints a picture of how many receive His word and the affect it does or does not have on them. It is not the fault of God or His Word that one does not get saved, but the choice the hearer of His word makes.
With that said, there must be a sowing of the seed for there ever to be a reaping of a harvest. When I was growing up, I remember when we planted grass seed; we would use a broadcaster that had a strap that we placed around our neck. As we walked in the area where we wanted to sow the seed, we would turn the crank and the seed would cover that area. What a wonderful picture of what we Christians should be doing with God’s Word in and around the area we live in.
Often times we can grow discouraged when we don’t see any results. It’s been said, “We never reap what we sow in the season we sow it.” Now this can be used when considering sin, but it also can be applied to sowing the seed of God’s Word to a lost and dark world. We might not ever see the results of our sowing but take this in account , “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” (Isaiah 55:10-11). Let’s be sowing God’s eternal changing and soul saving Word. Let’s continue to be faithful to God and His Word in the time that we have been given.
