1 Corinthians 6:19-20
In this letter to the Church at Corinth, the Apostle Paul had many things to address to this body of believers who were situated in a port city that was found in Greece. It was a busy city whose culture was corrupt and whose religion was steeped in idolatry. In the context of our two verses, Paul is dealing with the sexual immorality of the believers and told them to flee fornication. We must remember that we house within us the Holy Spirit. Let that sink deep into your heart and mind. Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Ghost. Ephesians 1:13-14 teaches us that when we were saved we were sealed with Holy Spirit of promise. Most cultures treat there so called temples with reverence and honor and they guard them. How are you guarding the temple?
We also live in a time when our culture is littered with immorality and temptations. Things have not changed since the day when Paul penned this letter to those believers at Corinth, so the message is the same today for us. Our verse tells us we were bought for a price and because of that we are not our own. I’m afraid that we forget the price that was paid for our redemption. The Lord Jesus paid a price that was brutal, bloody and violent but from such violence there was victory. The price was high and it was not just physical but also spiritual and emotional. We need to glorify God with these bodies that are His.
