That which we follow after will soon be seen and known by those who come in and out of our lives daily. I once had a dear friend tell me that eventually what a person truly believed would rise to the top and that they would not be able to hide it. I was a babe in Christ who had all kinds of questions and the Lord brought this man into my life at just the right time. I was a wide eyed new believer who was puzzled by the chameleon like life of many of the believers I came in contact with. Many seemed to follow after every morsel and whim that the world offered. Their lives resembled a coat of many colors as they trampled over the robe of righteousness that the Lord Jesus covered them with.
We don’t follow after righteousness and mercy so that we can impress the audience of society or the people in the pews. We walk the path first and foremost that is laid before us in our verse so that we can walk with the Lord. I have walked the streets of sin before I was saved and it was a dark and lonely place that left me empty, thirsty and hopeless. We would do well to approach each God given day as an opportunity to make an impact in the lives of our family, friends, co-workers and complete strangers. Every day is an opportunity for the life of Christ to be lived out through the Holy Spirit's power.
Take the time to meditate on and muse over our verse. Give it a good going over. Now- What will you follow after today?
