Division

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.  (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)  Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.  Others said, This is the Christ.  But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?  Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?  So there was a division among the people because of him.  And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

  John 7:37-44

I want us to consider these words from our text, “So there was a division among the people because of him.”  Just as there was division many years ago when this took place we also will see such a division because of Christ Jesus.  It will always be this way as long as we are on this earth!  I want to share four reasons why there is division.

A.  Because of God's wonderful Son.

B.  Because of God’s Word.

C.  Because of God’s way.

D.  Because of God’s will.

When one confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour the battle will begin from the devil and the world.  When the born again confesses God’s Word to be true and when they have a burning desire to follow His Word and allow it to guide them and be the final authority of their lives they will come under attack.  When the Christian says, “Lord not my will but your will for my life be done,” division will come quickly and swiftly.  Remember these words from our Lord, “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you” (John15:18).  It is far better to have division with the world rather than eternal separation from God.  Be encouraged, and continue on in God’s strength and power.
