Romans 15:1-2
When one is born again, they will soon learn that the “me” mentality is not what life is all about. The Lord Jesus taught the apostles a wonderful lesson that speaks to us today. In Mark 9:33b, Jesus asked the twelve a question, “What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?” Verse thirty-four reveals their embarrassment and their hearts,” But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.” In verse thirty-five the master teacher holds class, “And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.” Pride is the stumbling block that seeks to take root in the heart of every Christian. We must be diligent in listening for the Holy Spirits convicting voice when it comes to pride, confessing it in a quick fashion is a must. It is no longer just about us and our well-being. To be self-centered has no place in the life of a believer.
We need to be in the business of building up the weak. Too many Christians approach another brother or sister in Christ with a wrecking ball instead of as one who is willing to bear their infirmities. What does it mean to bear the infirmities of the weak? The word “bear” has the meaning to carry or to take up. We are to serve others and in doing so, as we apply our verses today, we will not stand back from a distance and belittle them, but we will bless them as we build them up in the bearing up of their infirmities.
Those that are strong have only been made strong by going through the fire themselves. Yet it is not that they endured alone, but that God strengthened them and that another brother or sister in Christ came alongside them. I have been blessed many times over by those who have lived out our verses in my life. They walked with me and carried that which was not their own. I thank God for them.
Let’s build up the weak and in doing so a foundation will be laid in those we build up to come alongside another in their time of need. Thus a scriptural principle will be proven once again. The seed of servant hood will be manifested in the Christlikeness that is lived out in the life of the seasoned saint. The blessing of being a blessing will bring us closer to the Lord and will allow us to be a building block in the body of Christ and not a stumbling block.
