Isaiah 1:18
The prophet Isaiah went to God’s people and boldly cried aloud and spared not to tell them about their sins. Isaiah did not mince words in verse six, he told them, “From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it.” In the first seventeen verses, God, through His prophet, brings down His indictment upon His people. (I suggest that you read this whole first chapter!). And then like an oasis in the desert, God says these grace filled words in verse eighteen, “Come now, and let us reason together.”
The Lord Jesus says, “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:44). It is not that anyone of us who is saved went looking for God; it is a fact that He was drawing us to Him! What a wonderful thought that just as God’s people in our scripture today was in over their head in sin, so it is today for the lost man, woman, boy or girl at this very moment and the Lord says, “Come now, and let us reason together.”
God does not mince words today when it comes to sin. Before a holy and righteous God, sin is an affront that must be dealt with. God made a way for it to be dealt with. The scarlet stain of sin can be cleansed by the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. The stain of sin can be as white as snow. Sweet words indeed.
