I can recall as if it was only yesterday, the summer of 2005. It was a time that God had set aside for me to walk up and down His precious word. I am not speaking of a quick jaunt, but a season of stepping down inside of the word of God. I allowed His wonderful truths to lay a hold of me as the Holy Spirit guided me. Psalm 42:1-2 was a part of that glorious summer. You see, as a lost man I had spent much time trying to find in the world that which only can be found in the Lord Jesus Christ. The spring that flows from the foundation of this world is salt laden. Sin never satisfies it only stirs up ones thirst. The devil is a liar who has deceived many down through the ages with his lies and unfulfilled promises. One day, what once was considered a choice morsel to the lost sinner will leave a rotten taste in their mouth in hell forever and ever. Jesus told the woman at the well, "Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:13b-14.) That is true satisfaction. I have drank from both wells and can attest that what the Lord Jesus gives is far greater. Since the summer of 2005 these words have not lost their grip on my heart, "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before him?" I desire to live each day in such a way. I pray the same for you.
