Psalm 37:8
What wonderful counsel that we get from our verse. We should cease and forsake both anger and wrath. One is a pointed finger and the other a balled up fist and neither bring glory to God when they are rooted in evil and the wickedness of our flesh. They can both lead to the doorstep, the threshold and eventually into the home of sin. Matthew Henry wrote these words long ago, “A fretful discontented spirit lies open to many temptations; and those who indulge it are in danger of doing evil.”
In many places throughout God's Word, God gives us wise and useful counsel in regard to anger and wrath. There is no place in the Bible that is simply there for filler. We need the direction and discernment that only God can give through the Holy Spirit and within the pages of His precious, living Word. I have learned repetition is a good tool for learning and it seems to be a discipline we find in God’s word. There is a reason for that- we need it over and over again! Cease and forsake ungodly anger and desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Humility always wins the day.
Maybe today has been challenging at your place of employment. Maybe it has been one thing after another and you have found yourself knee deep in anger and headlong in wrath. I want to encourage you to- Cease from anger and forsake wrath. Put your eyes upon the Lord. Ask for forgiveness from the Lord and those who you have possibly treated wrongly. Hide our verse in your heart and live and walk in victory in the power of God’s might.
